As mentioned in another thread I have an iPad Air and am thinking of upgrading to the iPad Pro (probably 10.5) I understand the Pro comes with an embedded Apple SIM and an empty external SIM slot. Unfortunately, while I am in an area where various carriers work well, within my office building I have only had consistent luck with Verizon. I also understand that Verizon is not a choice on the embedded Apple SIM.

So 2 questions: (1) If I purchase an iPad Pro from Apple, will I have a problem getting a Verizon SIM card for the external slot?; and (2) Will I be able to also use a carrier with the embedded SIM and switch back and forth between Verizon and the other carrier when I choose? (Specifically, I was wondering about international travel and the ability to utilize T-Mobile's free 200 mb of data if I run out of Verizon data in a particular month). I assume I could just swap the Verizon SIM out like I do on my iPad Air, but I was wondering if I could skip that step and just use the embedded SIM for the other carrier.

Hope that makes sense.

I just got a 10.5 Pro and swapped the AT&T nano sim from my IPad Air 1 to the 10.5 Pro. It automatically connected to the network and started working. I bought my 10.5 from B&H Photo and it is not carrier specific. I would recommend not getting the Verizon specific iPad Pro because I understand they deactivate the internal SIM. If you travel internationally I've heard that the internal SIM can be used to connect to foreign data networks without having to source a SIM card locally. So my suggestion is just to buy a 'generic' LTE model that is not branded to a network which could result in the internal SIM getting locked to that carrier.

Edit, if you don't already have a Verizon SIM you should be able to order one online or go to a Verizon store and buy one.

Thanks very much. That's great information. I do have a Verizon card that I am using in my Air 1, so if that will work in the Pro, it would be great. And I will be traveling internationally in a little over a month, so I will have the opportunity to find out if the internal SIM will work. If not, I guess I'll just buy a local SIM and swap it with the Verizon card.

Thanks again!
