Cellular data on 2018 iPad better than 2nd gen iPP

Just got my cellular data going on my new 2018 iPad. Showing the exact same number of bars with LTE connection (1-2 max which is typical for our location), I am amazed how much faster I seem to connect to web pages.

Any idea why that would be? I’m certainly NOT complaining; just curious.
 
When you run the Speedtest App - does it display different performance figures for both devices?

Actually, my bad - I read 2nd Gen iPad, not 2nd Gen iPP. Is this consistent across websites that are not cached?

Perception and reality are two different things. Without a 2nd gen iPP to compare performance side by side, can't rightly say if the 2018 iPad actually is faster.

I remembered my iPad 3+iOS 6 being faster than iPad Air+iOS 9 but I once did a side by side comparison and that was not the case. Just my memory playing tricks on me.
 
Page rendering, and many other variables have more influence on what you see as faster downloads. The air interface speed is always much faster than everything else in the chain. The old "Safari seems faster" in every thread after software updates as an example.

Well I was using the iPP the day before my LTE was up and running on the new 2018. It is an obvious difference, and on my new device, nothing was cached at all because I set it up as new - not from a backup or anything.
 
I just upgraded from an Air 1 to a 6th gen 9.7" with LTE and I also seem to find everything happening faster. But thats probably processor related as much as anything. The A7 in my Air1 is ancient by computing standards, right?

The LTE performance of my 6th is great though, no doubt.
 
That makes sense because the Air 1 is a good bit older, but I’m just surprised since the iPP was under a year old, has more ram and at least as good (if not better) of a processor.
 
iPad 2018 has an LTE modem capable of speeds 'up to' 300Mbps whereas the iPad Pro (2nd gen.) has a LTE-A modem capable of speeds 'up to' 450Mbps.

It might be in part to the A10 Fusion processor; I'm on o2 in the U.K. and 4G as it's known over here is much faster on my iPP 10.7" than it is on my iPhone SE.
