This started on an SE (ios12), and continues with an SE 2020 (iOS13). Same SIM card.

Starting with 100% charge, with no apps running, the battery steadily drains to about 20% in 24 hours. Phone not even touched during that time.

I have literally tried everything, and currently have a shambolic Apple Support case open (don’t even ask!!! :-( ).

To cut the chase, the only thing that stops the drain is Airplane mode. Just turning cellular data off makes difference at, nada.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

How's the signal? Finding and keeping the cellular signal is something that can use a fair bit of battery if the signal isn't that good (and certainly more so if it's marginal or just bad).

That is a good question. Signal strength is good, in fact I can see the booster thingie from my window.
