I'm coming from an iPad 3 so e-sim and Apple Sim are new to me. I just wanted to check that I can use an existing physical sim in this model? Reason I ask is I have a snap their arms off kind of data deal that suits me, didn't stick around long but is still honoured for existing customers. Thankfully when I got it I had the foresight to get it in Nano sim version and use a sim adapter to use it in my current iPad, so no issues there.

Thanks

You are fine. The new ipad mini has a physical sim slot as well.

I have been transfering my grandfathered unlimited AT&T data plan i got with the very first ipad to every new ipad I have owned since. I am about to buy the new ipad mini and will transfer it over from my old ipad mini. But i will use the e sim.

I like to save my physical card slot for when i travel overseas and want to buy a local data plan.

It has and will probably continue to have a nano SIM until E-SIM becomes the norm.

I have an unlimited grandfathered att plan. How does that work for when you go overseas? I was always afraid getting an overseas plan would kick me off the unlimited and I’d lose it forever. Is there a way to have both now?

The newer ipads have both an apple e sim & a sim card tray. But even if you have an older ipad with just the sim tray, it’s real easy. Just turn off cellular in settings, pop out your carrier’s sim(keep it safe) and insert the sim from the country you are traveling in. Easy peasy.
