iPad Pro Ceramic Shield Screen Glass ! First Step in Right Direction ?

It looks like After Years, Apple has finally listened to the Apprehensions that People like me had using the Apple Device Bare Screen. With the Ceramic Shield feature glass coming to the iPhone 12 I am presuming that the same thing is gonna percolate to the next Year's iPad Pros. That should take care of people who are stressed out like me lol ! And get paranoid with the thought about what if something scratches their iPads. But still it is not gonna take care of the Finger Print Marks on the Screen. Apple's Oleophobic Coating also has to make some drastic improvement in like coming up with some ground breaking technology with a coating that just does not let the finger print marks come on the screen.

I wish someone passes on this message to Apple that You have taken a right and a great step in developing the Ceramic Shield Glass now you also need to back it up with a Device Screen which has a Coating which just does not get Finger Print Marks.

If the Ceramic Shield Glass comes on the iPad Pro next year I would dare to keep it naked, I mean I will use an Apple Folio Cover on it but no screen guard. But the problem with the screen being Finger Print Magnet still remains. Apple has not found a workable solution for it.

Not only Apple, but wider industry has not found an oleophobic coating that can eliminate, not just resist, fingerprints. That's just one application for these coatings. Oleophobic coatings are also used in the medical industry and oil and gas industry - it's not just applicable to touch displays so there is a lot of on-going research in this area.

Things like this are incremental improvements, not cures. I have no doubt it'll reduce the number of broken displays, but I guarantee you that we'll also see cries of "fraud" here from some of those who still manage to break a screen (just as we do from people who have liquid damage despite better water-resistance).

I've never broken a screen and never used a screen protector. I've also never had liquid damage. To some degree I know it's luck, to some degree it's my general lifestyle/work environment, and to some degree it's just how I handle my stuff. I'd almost go as far to say that somebody who has never damaged a screen protector doesn't really need one. But we also have to feel secure, so if you feel better/have less stress by using one, who am I to stop you?

As to fingerprints? Those happen when you use a touchscreen. I'm sure that without coatings the situation would be far worse, but it's also user-specific. The question for me comes down to, how easy is it to clean? After more than 2.5 years with my current iPhone it still cleans with a quick wipe with a clean cloth. Not too bad, all things considered.

Did they actually mention at the keynote that the Ceramic Shield will protect against scratches? They seemed to talk more about drop resistance than anything else.

Yes, that’s right. It’s more for alleged drop protection than scratches.

One year it’s scratch resistance, the next year it’s drop/shatter resistance. They never quote you all the specs so you don’t know if they had to lower one side to improve the other. In general, the harder and more scratch resistant something is, the easier it is to shatter ... so the question is if they really did something amazing here or if it’s just a tweak.

I recommend reading information from Corning who creates the glass. They have written quite a bit on their website.

Glass is glass. Unless Apple provides warranty for scratches or damages, I would still get a screen protector.

It's dishonest to claim durability or whatever, but then provides no warranty on the claim.

Some independent tech sites are confirming it will prevent the device glasss screen from day to day minor scratches.

Again, ceramic is not sapphire...so lets wait ..dont look at some articles that clear dont know the difference
Again, Apple first for ipads should goes with 7000 series al frame like they started again to do with the iphone 12 mini and 12...so thats a real good thing if Apple didnt lied about..so they are going back to the iphone 6s and not for the iphone 6 plus fiasco
Until Apple will use sapphire instead of glass is a long wait...even on the new S class , on top of Oled is glass and not sapphire to protect it from scratches
So expect better protection for drops but not for minos scratches that are made on the oleophobic coating

It doesn't work this way. If you want tech companies to implement your particular pet peeve, the first step is to use the phrase "needs to" in your posts.

I would suggest a title like "It's 2020, Apple needs to step up its scratch resistance. Here's why."

For extra effect, it helps if you mention that their current offering is "a joke" in the text.
