I've never found an in-ear that I like. I can get them to fit in one ear but not the other, and the bass is extremely lacking on those that I have tried (Shure e2c, Sony EX71, and a few others I can't remember). The best portable phones that I have found are the Koss PortaPro units; they are extremely light and open. I just bought a pair of Sony MDR-V6 (not V600) closed headphones for thoe times when I need isolation.

I think you're better off with the Etymotic ER-6i. Perfect match for the iPod and there 72.99 with free shipping off Amazon (less than half price off the normal $149.99 retail)

I own them myself and the reviews always rate them at the top for their price range I paid $85 and they're well worth the price.
