I currently own a canon 7D with a 16gb CF card i had taken numerous photos and vidoes on the card from my graduation and a birthday party but now i seem to have a problem my original CF reader turned out to be damaged and in turn ( i believe it damaged my CF) my CF card won't read in the 7D or in another CF reader i purchased today both of them seem to recognize that their is a CF card in the slot but i can seem to access the information.

i purchased i dynex 12-1 card reader and everytime i insert it into my macbook it says unrecognizable and leads me to the disk utility the Disk utility seems to recognize it but the only i can do is erase it , i tried imaging the card but it eventually stops and says resource busy. In the 7D it says unrecognizable reformate and such but i would really like to salvage the photos in the card anyway possible even if its not all of them any one have any solutions

THANK YOU

There is photo recovery software that people have had good luck with (not sure if it deals with corruption or just deleted files though). I would try something like DiskWarrior to see if it can repair the card. It's not free, but if the pictures are important to you, it's worth a shot.

that is what you get for buying a Dynex product :)

In all seriousness, this is what i bought. $23 on ebay, brand new. Firewire Compact Flash reader. Works 100% of the time, no problems or anything!

This can be very expensive, but it is possible. The last hard drive I had recovered was $2000. I would stick with the software for now and learn for the future. I always switch cards part way through an event (even if it's not full) so if 1 card dies, I still have something.

have you tried another card reader? What about using the USB from your camera, and connecting it that way?

For what it's worth, I also have one of those older Lexar Firewire 400 readers. For whatever reason it won't work with some of the newer faster CF cards such as the Sandisk Extreme IV cards that were current until last fall.

I'm now using the Sandisk Extreme Firewire 800 reader and Lexar Pro UDMA readers with no problems:
