Hello to everybody,

I have the champagne gold iPhone 5S. I just wanted to know if the iPhone 5S's side band/bezel wears and tears over time. I noticed a very small scratch on the bottom left side band/bezel. It is only noticeable in very bright lights. I put my iPhone 5S in the pocket by it self. I don't put it any case. However, I have installed a front screen protector and a back screen protector. I just wanted to know does the iPhone 5S wears and tears over time? Can it actually get scratched within your pants, shorts and/or jeans pockets over time? I would really appreciate all the comments and insights that you might have.

Thank you and best regards.

Yes, it's aluminum, and can be nicked, scratched, dented, etc. If you put it in a pocket with other things (such as keys, coins, etc.), it can easily can scratched. If you knock it against your desk or nightstand, it can get scratched or dented. If you're going to not put it in a case, you'll just have to be careful with it.

Thank you for your response Tyler23. I always put my iPhone 5S by itself in my pocket. Sometimes I even wrap it in a cleaning cloth and then put it in my pocket. However, it still got scratched. I don't knock it against my desk or nightstand either.

What do you think?

Even touching a ring, etc. could do it. Even if someone is incredibly careful, the chances of it not touching anything are remote. Nicking it on your belt while putting it in your pocket. Even salt, sand, dirt, anything in your pocket could do it. Setting it on a table with anything on it. There are tons of ways and there's no way to protect it 100%, even with a case.

I'd say just don't worry too much about it.

I understand. There was this one time where I accidentally nicked it on my belt when I was putting it in my pocket. You are correct though. Thank you so much for your opinion and insight.

Phones these days have become very delicate or maybe we have become too conscious to keep them in mint condition :D

I never used a case for my iphone 2G...dunno what happened since iphone 3G..,I have tons of cases.

I have applied full body transparent film from gadgetshieldz and I use Spigen clear case to protect and enjoy my gold iphone.

Those are both true statements. iDevices and phones have become very delicate over time. Personally, I like to keep all of my gadgets and electronics in mint condition. I don't even sell them though but, I like to keep them in mint condition as much as possible.

I understand. I have a lot of cases myself for my previous iPhone 5 and current iPhone 5S.

I understand. I just have a clear HD front and back screen protector for my champagne gold iPhone 5S.

I apologize about the duplicate threat Tyler23. I had no idea I was doing that.

In regards to duplicate thread, do you think my iPhone can get scratched if, a pair of keys hit and slid across the screen of my iPhone while it was in my pocket? Also, my iPhone was wrapped in a cleaning cloth at the time this that happened. Could you please review and respond?

Again, yes, keys sliding across your phone screen could scratch it.

Wrapped in a cleaning cloth, it's less likely, but still possible.

The best advice is to put the phone all by itself in your pocket, with nothing else in there. Put your keys, etc, in a different pocket.

I understand. I apologize but, I forgot to mention that the keys were outside my pocket and in my hand. While I was walking, with my keys in my hand, my keys accidentally hit and slid across the screen of my iPhone in my pocket, which was wrapped in a cleaning cloth. Do you think that it could scratch my iPhone?

Not likely, but not impossible.

Stop worrying, get a case and a screen protector. There's no way to keep your phone 100% safe, just take precautions and move on with life.

On some level it could. But sounds like probably not a big deal.

I understand. I examined the front of my iPhone screen and there no scratches.

I understand. I do have a front screen protector and a back screen protector. Do you still think my iPhone can still get scratched after today's incident?

I try my best to take precautions but, incidents like what happened today just occur randomly.

Thank you for your response C DM. I looked at and examined the front of my iPhone screen and I did not see any scratches. Do you think if there would be any scratches?

If you don't see any scratches, what are you worrying about? It's a phone, be smart and take precautions, but that incident is very common and not very likely to scratch your phone. It was in your pocket, with a screen protector, in a cloth, etc.

Your phone is fine.

I guess when it comes to my phone and technology, I am very picky and want everything to be perfect. I understand. I am trying to.

I understand. Thank you so much for your responses and comments Tyler23.

If there are no scratches then there are no scratches.

You didn't use any hand sanitizer again and touched it?
Did ya?:D

Of course he'd know if he used hand sanitizer and touched his fone - his fingernails would be falling off - of course then those would be one less thing to possibly scratch his fone.

What he DOES need to be careful of is that all this handling of his fone will cause dead skin cells to fall off and 1) scratch the fone's case and/or keypad and 2) clog up the speaker and charging ports. Then he's REALLY in trouble for I fear that there's no practical way of removing dead skin cell scratches from either the Gorilla Glass or aluminum surfaces and nothing short of the use of squirtz of high-pressure canned air will ever remove the skin cells from the external ports.

I have the iphone 5s white/gold version, i have protected with protected film for bazel backplate the front screen and all the rounding the upper. So basicaly it's ok from scratches + i have it always in a very soft silicone switchcase (if i am spelling her corectly).

So here is my concern the lighting port that is for data transfer and charging the phone, i am wondering if this port gonna wear off the color because it's been in contact with the metal of the pin connector that charges the phone.
So is it gonna wear of the gold/anodized color of the port?

Sorry for the big post.

Thank you!

i have full covered with invisible film protector and inside a soft silicon case so i have protected the the phone near to 95%. My only concern if it will scratched or tear off this golden ring that is around the lighning port where i am insert the wire to charge the phone.

i mean this ring here.
