currently I have a 64gb MBA, i love it but would rather have an imac. However I could not picture myself buying anything no matter how nice without an SSD... has this been speculated on yet?

I'd say a pretty small chance of it being standard, but a fair possibility of a somewhat reasonable price. Personally, I wouldn't want to be forced to pay the extra for the SSD, as I can't justify the cost for the limited real-world benefit of it. I do realize that it will boot faster and load apps faster, but at roughly $2.50/GB for a reasonably sized drive, I just can't do it. However, my 7200 RPM HDD ran about $0.19/GB, which is much more reasonable.
Since the current iMacs have an SSD which you can choose as an option, I would speculate that the next ones will too but that the price should drop or the capacity increase.
I fitted a 120GB OCZ Vertex 2 to my mid-2007 24" yesterday and I am really liking the difference. Waking from sleep and being responsive is much faster, apps load so much quicker and when logging into WoW in a busy place the initial period where it has to load textures from cache to draw the people around you is over much faster. This means the FPS steadies out much quicker.
The only significant issue I had with the (re-)installation was the inverter lead on the underside of the LCD connects in an awkward way to the logic board and this took a little fiddling.
I did take the opportunity to remove 3 years of dust from the fans and vents where accessible and as a result, I am convinced that the fans are now spinning more slowly and quietly. I didn't record the fan speeds before and after but having taken out the old WD Caviar Blue 500Gb and cleaned the fans, the iMac is now a LOT quieter.
Depending on what you are using it for, of course, I find that the small size of this primary drive is not an issue as the iMac only ever had 62Gb on it and almost half was WoW (damn those patch files - they sure accumulate). I have Snow Leopard, CS3 and WoW as the main apps plus a few small things so space wasn't an issue. My external Time Machine archive is on a WD Caviar Green via FW800.

I am using Dell 1545, core 2 duo processor, 2 GB RAM, intel chipset motherboard and being using it since last one year, am now looking to busy some upgraded, slim laptop, any suggestion
I can't picture an SSD being default; they are too expensive for the amount of storage they provide. HDs will most certainly remain default for some time.
