Chances of a New iMac

I am 14 and I have been saving for an iMac for a while now. I am going to be buying the £1149($1799) 24" model. A week before 'Lets Rock' i found a site claiming to have had screenshots from an Apple Intranet that shows a future iMac page. All the prices have been dropped and some minor spec bumps. I have also read rumours on Macrumors.com saying that people are expecting there to be another Apple Event on October 14th.

With my savings:

The current prices will alow me to buy my iMac at christmas.

With the new proposed prices I will be able to buy an iMac now.

My question is what do you think the chances are of an iMac update in some shape or size before christmas.

Lol. Wow at 14 I was wondering what it would be like to have $100...That was 12 years ago.

Signs are looking good for something happening in Oct. However may I suggest take a look at the refurb store. I just bought my parents a 24inch imac for $1500 from there ($300 off) and when it arrived it was obvious the thing was never actually used by anyone (or at least apple did a great job of making it look that way!) Not to mention the refurbs are burned in by the apple techs to make sure they work flawless.
 
October?

Really? Everything I've heard points to MacWorld in January. I thought it was only going to be the laptops getting an update in October. Where did you guys hear October?
 
Or are we just talking about price drops here? Could a price drop be happening alongside the release of the cheaper Macbooks? If so then I will definitely be waiting until October. It'll save me money rather than ordering now.
 
As many people on here have already stated -- there wont be an iMac update until at least January because there is really nothing currently out (or coming out) to upgrade the hardware of the current iMac with.
 
I would hope that if there is an update they'd bump the video card as well, the 2600 is a bit dated now

Okay but what about a price drop? Somebody has yet to give me an honest opinion as to whether or not they think that a price drop will happen before January. So, price drop, anyone?
 
I too don't see anything happening until MWSF '09 in January. So I would say that you are safe until then. I do not see Apple releasing any new Macs in the next month, they would have to share the Apple focus with the new iPods. I also don't see Apple updating them, as Apple could very well go with a major upgrade of the entire Mac line in January with all these rumors around the MB and MBP. But even then, I don't see Apple doing much of an upgrade except for a spec boost, after all, the iMac received a major case redesign about 14-15 months ago, so the current design is still very new. I think that you would be safe buying now.

I don't, if people simply used the Buyers Guide here, looked at the front page for major news regarding that product, or ran a forum search through MRoogle, then they would find all of the information that they need. After all, Apple doesn't announce these updates in advance, and if there were any reliable leaks, then they would most certainly be on the front page.
 
I agree! How do we get that to happen? I've seen it on here before but I've never known how to do it. God, I sound like such a noob right now.:D

It is something that the mods or gods can do, and very rarely does it happen. Most threads are sticky'ed were started by mods for people to see before posting, or were started by mods on a subject that would probably get dozens of threads a day. And there already is a "sticky" on this topic, it is one that is on just about every page of this website, not just the forums, it is called Buyers Guide and is located at the top tab on every page. Because Apple doesn't advertise their updates, and the next best thing that you can get is leaks, then your best place to look is that page which will then give you links to recent stories about that product. Through that page and the links it gives you, you should have a general idea of when an update will be, no sticky needed.
 
Stop waiting for the next Imac
I have been waiting for the next imac since january 2006,
and i still didn't get it, and guess what
since I heard this am going to wait until january 2009

don't do like me, and just buy whatever is out, your computer will be outdated the time you buy it, and technology is sure to advance

just buy
 
Prices prices prices!!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm not worried about the specs, I'm worried about the price. I'm planning on getting a refurbished iMac (24" 3.06GHz) already but if Apple was to lower the prices of the iMacs then they would surely lower the prices of the refurbs. In my opinion it would make sense for them to lower the prices of their desktops when they do so with their laptops but I can't get anyone to give me another opinion on this issue. All I hear people talking about is updates. I don't want an update, they were just updated. I just want to save money and I'll be extremely pissed if I buy my iMac this week and then a month from now Apple drops the prices.
 
Oh, and sorry about the hijack. I don't normally do this but I'm just getting feverish about my iMac purchase. I think it's quite reasonable for a poor college student such as myself to want to save money.
 
I want my centrino 2 based new iMac with the following spec:
-up to 3.06Ghz
-DDR3 up to 4G
-ssd 128G OPTION
-i dont play games so a 'non NVidia card' will do, that means ATI :D
