About a week ago before doing a presentation at school, my MBA's screen went into sleep mode the way it was supposed to. After I moved my finger around the trackpad to get it to wake, it wouldn't work. The screen woke up a few minutes later and then the backlight turned off. I then rebooted it and then saw a black 'X' over the battery icon in the menu bar. I closed the lid, and the darned thing refused to go into sleep mode. The backlighted Apple logo still glowed brightly. I took it to the ASP that day and the woman there said they'd look into it.

It's the same dented/scratched MBA that I posted about earlier. What are the chances that they'll replace it with a new/refurb one?

They will attempt to repair it, even if that means replacing the logic board or what not. Usually a replacement happens on DOAs or otherwise defective machines within the first two weeks of ownership, after that it goes to repair. If the same part/problem causes it to go in three times for repair and they just can't get it right - usually something else wrong, then a replacement. At this point they will repair your machine.

Dude, you, emphasis on YOU dropped this thing on CONCRETE, the concrete did not attack your laptop. Neither the school nor Apple is responsible for the damage. If other things are going wrong with it, it may be coincidence or as a result of the damage you caused. If Apple repairs the problem under warranty, consider yourself lucky. If they replace it, then obviously you have somehow managed to miss the point of this life lesson, which is trying to teach you responsibility for an $1800 laptop, and not scrutiny from your fellow classmates who may or may not also be suffering from the post millennium over the top sense of entitlement epidemic sweeping the world today.

/end rant.

Dude, you don't have anything coming! After looking at your previous posts regarding damage, you should be dealing with Apple and nobody else! That thing has become a "hunk" of aluminum junk. First suggestion: "Stop playing basketball with your MBA!" and Second suggestion: "Don't waste our time for sympathy! You should be addressing these issues with Apple!" I'm hoping Apple SM is reading this post right now.

the problem wasn't caused by the earlier drop, so I'm just wondering. BTW thanks Roland for answering my question... and then ending rant.

Also... SFStateStudent, all that finger-pointing (at me) isn't necessary. I already know that the damn Air dented/scratched because of me and that's why I didn't ask the school to replace it for me in the first place and tried to fix it myself. This time is completely not my fault. The thing just... broke.

So it's 3 times for the same problem, not just 3 issues? I'm headed to the apple store for the third time tomorrow. When they replaced my keyboard/top case, i think the bent the bottom case. It literally clicks when i put pressure on the side where the bottom case meets the top.

No three times for the same issue. If you have an optical drive failure, they replace it. If something goes wrong with a port several months later, same thing. If you screen dies then a while later, they fix that too. Then so and and so on. However if they same issue happens and the just can't fix it or it has too many problems in too short a time span, then they will replace it, but remember there are always exceptions and judgement calls as every sitch is a different individual case.
