I use Apple Mail on my Mac for my Yahoo Mail. I recently changed the password on my Yahoo mail from the Yahoo website. Since then, I am able to receive my Yahoo Mail with Apple Mail but unable to send mail. I assume that I need to somehow change the password on my Mac, but I don’t know where. Can anyone help?
 
Look in Mail / Preferences / Account Information / Server Settings.

Chances are that you need to change the "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" setting to include the new password.
 
Thanks for your response, monokakata, but I'm not seeing anything that wants a password. What am I missing?
 
Do you see the two sections ("Incoming Mail Server" and "Outgoing Mail Server")?

They should be in there under "Server Settings," which is a tab alongside "Account Information" and "Mailbox Behaviors."

Sorry, but I have to leave my desk for several hours, so I won't be able to respond.
 
Which version of Apple Mail are you using? My version is 11.5 and there is no password setting for outgoing mail server. There is, however, a password setting for incoming mail server which should be the same password you set for your Yahoo mail password. Try that to see if it corrects the problem.
 
I'm using 11.5 also. See attached. Perhaps the difference in what what we see is because I don't use "internet accounts" in System Prefs. All my email accounts live in Mail only.

I am running macOS Sierra 10.12.6 and Mail 10.3. App Store says that there are no updates to anything. If my Mail is an old version, I don’t know how to update it.

I do not have anything like that under the Server Settings tab. Under Mail > Preferences > Accounts I click on my Yahoo account in the column on the left, and then I have tabs for Account Information, Mailbox Behaviors and Server Settings. Under Server Settings, I have only Outgoing Mail Account, which gives me a list to choose from: iCloud or my Yahoo account. I select my Yahoo account and have nothing else. I know what you mean about "Incoming Mail Server" and "Outgoing Mail Server,” but I don’t see them anywhere.
 
I have one more idea and then I'm out of suggestions.

Maybe the settings info is actually in Sys Prefs, "Internet Accounts?"

As for updating, I guess you'd have to update to High Sierra to get Mail 11.5. But I doubt that would solve your problem. My various versions of Mail have worked the same way for me over the past few MacOS versions.

Another idea: why not make another Yahoo account (a temporary one, let's say) and see whether you can get it to work, using Mail (and not Internet Accounts).

The difference in what we are both seeing is because your account is IMAP and I'm still using POP3. I don't know why our OP is not seeing a setting for Outgoing Mail but it might be because he is using an older version of mail. The only way for him to update his Mail app is to update to High Sierra.
 
Try going into your Keychain and delete the passwords there. Then the next time Mail attempts to receive or send messages you will be prompted to enter the new passwords.
 
Hmmm... In Finder > Utilities > Keychain Access, I have multiple entries for map.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.mail.yahoo.com. Which should I delete? And (no offense), but are you SURE that I will be prompted for a password the next time that I send or receive? I don't want to get into deeper trouble. Again, no offense.
 
since yahoo is one of the standard email addresses that the apple Internet Accounts preference adding/removing pane does very well, i wonder if the easiest way to handle this is to simply remove the account in the Internet Accounts pane and re-add it immediately. this way it gets set up automatically and correctly for both incoming and outgoing.
since you indicated you can receive email, simply be sure to download any recent email before you remove the account.

i dont know if you leave yr imap mail always on the server in order to have it available on all devices all the time, or are routinely downloading yr email into local folders and therefore effectively are deleting imap email from being able to be re-downloaded again. but be aware that the above mentioned approach of simply removing the email account and then re-adding it in the Internet Accounts preference pane would likely delete any email currently on the server, or, at least not make it available for re-download to yr device.

No problem, I understand your concern.

Unless you have more than one email account, you should only have one password for imap.mail.yahoo.com and one password for smtp.mail.yahoo.com in your Keychain.

For example, my AT&T Yahoo IMAP account has the following two passwords stored in my Keychain:

If you have only one email account and more than two passwords stored in your Keychain, I would recommend deleting all of the password entries.
 
Yeah! I deleted all of the Yahoo mail entries from my keychain and am now able to send mail! I was never asked for my password, so I don't understand how my Mac is connecting, but I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Strange that it didn't prompt you for any passwords. But as you stated, it might have something to do with not using Internet Accounts in System Preferences (which I am using).
