Change default application that opens mp4

Every time I go into Finder and try to open up an .mp4 file, it gets opened up in Nikon ViewNX-i which is not what I want.

I have tried right-clicking on the file in Finder, and choosing "Open With" and then "Other" and then "QuickTime Player.app" and then "Always Open With" but those settings don't seem to be holding.

What is the issue here?

Doing it this way only sets the default for that particular file. If you want to change the default application for all files of this type, you have to do it in Finder by clicking on Get Info and then choosing “Change All”.

That's not very intuitive - especially for a Mac?!
