Change DVD Format

Who can give me a step-by-step for changing the format for burning a DVD to be read by PC's. I can only get my G4 PB to burn in Mac OS Extended format. In disk utilities, I do not have any other options. If I follow the "help" instructions to erase the DVD and change the format to MS-DOS, I do not have the option offered in the drop down.

I am using OSX 10.4.3, Matshita UJ-816 drive, DVD-RW Sony discs (2x - 4x) burning at 1x speed.

What kind of CD are you burning? If it's just DATA (drag folders to the DVD) then it'll work in Windows.

Have you used Toast?

I'm burning a PDF version of a book I wrote that contains many jpg's. I have copied it to a CD as a Word doc with no problem. I wanted to offer it as a PDF for promo use.

When I load the DVD, I drag and drop the file to the DVD, open the DVD, name it, and burn. When the DVD is finished, the dialog box goes away and I eject the now titled DVD. It works fine in Mac as when I check the info, it shows Mac OS Extended format. It will not however, open in a PC. I was told that it should be in an ISO format?

I'm a bit confused right now.

Beyond the DVD burning problem, I really do think you should double & triple check your PDF creation options. Make sure PDF compression is on, etc... There is no reason that the PDF should be 12x larger than the Word file. It should be about the same size or smaller.

Another option would be to use the online PDF creation tool from Adobe to create the PDF from the Word document instead of the built in OS X features. http://createpdf.adobe.com. You could do it for free, but you would have to split your word file in 2 since they have a 100MB size limit during the trial period.

Even if the file only grew 4x you could burn it on CD and that you already know works.
