WD Black 500GB m.2 PCIe NVME 3DNAND (2018) test speed with Disk Speed Test write about 1300+ and read 1400+
but on box clam speed read 3400MB/s. why speed test less than label on box?

Not every speed test is equal; one speed test will give one number. Another speed test will give another number. You have to compare apples to apples, and so on. :)

Anyway don't stare yourself blind at artificial speed test numbers. Is the computer fast in your day to day activities? If yes, then okay. Good!

Now.I contact our adapter product and have answer:
our adapter card is only bridge card, the speed is mainly according to speed of SSD and limitation speed of Macbook's interface.

2013/2014 MBPs have PCIe 2.0; you need PCIe 3.0 to hit the max speed.
I can't find adapter NGFF M.2 PCIe SSD PCIe3.0. Can you suggest me to buy new adapter NGFF M.2 PCIe SSD PCIe3.0 for macbook pro retina 2015?

Of course it is. It can't be faster than the device it's connected to.

@asustak Please can you share your WD SSD energy usage using the app iStatMenu? Also how do you find the battery life after installing the WD black?

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum and threat, so forgive me my potential lack of knowledge.

I had the WD Black NVME 2018 500Gb installed in my MacBook Pro 2014 for the last 2 weeks. Unfortunately I had to return the SSD for two reasons, but let's start out with the "goods"

It ran like as advertised. Speeds were really good (1300/1500 Mb/sec) and also the SSD was recognised immediately.

The two main reasons I returned the SSD..

Boot up was problematic. It took a long time before the Apple logo to appear. About 15-20 sec. After that boot up was fine. I could manipulate boot up by keeping the "option" button pressed after pressing the power button (The SSD appeared right away) and then select it. I did everything that I could find on the internet...Resetting SMC and PRAM, reselecting the startup disc in the system preferences. Nothing helped.

The other big problem was energy consumption. It was simply too high. I didn't use Istats but the build in "activity" program and "battery monitor". An app that I got from the App Store. The lowest power usage (while idling) I got from the WD Black was 6 Watt. The lowest I got from the original SSD was 3 Watts. "About this Mac" told me basically the same. Under "power" I could see that the amperage was higher with the WD Black than the original SSD. The WD Black was clean installed while the original SSD was not. And still it ran more energy efficient. Both SSD's ran Mojave.

I'm very curious what other people's experiences are.

Thanks advance for any comments or tips.

PS...I fitted the WD Black with the latest Sintech adapter

I had similar experience with EVO 970. Had no issues with boot up but lost a bunch of battery time and eventually replaced it with second hand original SSD, you can get used SSUBX 512 for $250 or so. If you look at other similar threads you'll see report that EVO Pro doesn't have any impact on battery life and seems like a perfect match. But the Pro is quite expensive.

Thysanoptera,

Thanks for your reply. I have been searching for these threats about the 970 Pro, but I couldn't find them. Any chance you can send me a link? The EVO pro here in The Netherlands is just 10 euro more expensive than the WD black. So no dealbreaker for me.

PS: I also tried the 960 EVO with the older adapter, but I had the same problems. Long boot up and bad battery life.

Thysanoptera,

Thanks again for your reply. I have started reading the whole treat and I ran into an interesting alternative...HatSSD. Never heard of them but definitely worth looking into. I'll keep you (and the rest of the treat viewers) posted.
