Change hard drive fee?

Wanna upgrade HD but don't wanna do it myself and can't find any one that will so if I bring in a new HD and my G4 powerbook, how much will Apple chage to swap it out or will they charge anything?

Edit: don't try to send me to ifixit.com. i already said i don't want to do this myself.

Which model PowerBook G4 is it?

Apple Stores probably won't install customer-supplied hardware, but any independent Apple dealer or service shop certainly can. You would be looking at a service charge based on the hourly rate - I would guess the minimum you'll see is around $75 labour and up, more if you want them to clone your OS and data from the original drive first.

Getting an 80 gig ipod classic anyway so i'm just going to use the disk mode to copy the files i want to keep.

75+ dollars is ridiculous to swap out a hard drive. I hear it's easy but i do'nt feel comfortable all the way. Is there any video's on how to change the HD on a 12" Aluminum G4 Powerbook?
 
Apple won't do the "upgrade" for you and the cheapest I found someone to do it for me was $65.

Decided to do it myself.
 
The fee for a hard drive change here at the little Apple Service Center is 100 Euro + 20% tax. When I brought in my MBP for a screen change under warranty the fee was 0 Euro :)
 
The best you'll probably find for a job done by someone who actually knows what they're doing is between $75-$100. The kid down the block could probably do it for $25 but who knows if you'll end up with stripped screws, etc.
 
Video tutorials for 12" Aluminum Powerbook G4?

...I can't find any on these forums and i also searched on Google but still no luck. I'd rather not drop 50+ bucks or so on something i could probably do myself... just would rather have video's if there are any.

hey! my HDD for my Powerbook G4 12" 1.5ghz failed on me in Jan. I was quoted £300 ($550) for repair!!! NO WAY!!!

Grabbed an 80gb HDD from PC world for £70 (still pretty steep) and did it myself.

I know you said you dont want to do it, its really really easy to do it. The comp is basically in layers and you just work your way down. Only think you take of is keyboard, top case and the part which hold the innards down. All clicking stuff out and unscrewing.

After i swapped over, just ran disk utility, formatted and re-installed the OS. Its what i would recommend, was nervous, but once you do it uld feel fine about doing it again as its so simple!

And i promise you, you will feel pretty good about it all, a technical problem solved, also an economical bonus!

Sounds good! :) I am still looking for any video tutorials of how to do it on a 12 inch aluminum powerbook g4 though...
