change ichat's buddy list

No. iChat isn't a particularly customizable program (a la most things from Apple). If you want something more customizable, get Adium.fowler. said:

/me wonders why people proselytize so much about Adium. It's not that great, IMHO there are better alternatives out there.
I've had tons of problems with file transfers as well on Adium. No idea why and no clue how to fix it....
The latest version has the newest libgaim, which has all the file transfer improvements from Google's "Summer of Code." It's a lot better now, though admittedly still not as good as iChat. However, as a general AIM (and everything else) client, it's way better. I use it to chat. For the few times when its file transfer doesn't work now (or I need A/V), I fire up iChat. It's good to have both, but I wouldn't want to have to use iChat full time. For one... no good logging engine!

i would've go with iChat if i'm using AIM very often and if iChat supports MSN...
yeah on the current version of adium they have fixed the file transfer thing (this happened for me about 3 weeks ago)
