This might sound dumb, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

I'm changing my name soon and I'm looking to change the names on all my online services to reflect that. Where I'm running into trouble is with my email addresses. As far as I know, there's no way to change the addresses themselves.

Am I correct or is there some way this can be done/worked around with iCloud mail?

don't believe its possible to change it, outside of creating a whole new one.

what you can do is, goto iCloud.com click on Mail, click on the Gear settings icon in the lower left, then click Accounts and click Create Alias.

you can create an alias that forwards to your new account (and you can reply with the alias email as well). so you will have both accounts and they can all forward to the same inbox.

You should still be able to sign into Appleid based portals with the new alias as well if I'm not mistaken.

but you will be able to have both email accounts and not have to worry about migrating everything over to another account or having people lose your original email and not get messages from them.

This is indeed the best solution as far as I know. Apple currently doesn't support changing the primary iCloud email address you set up for your account, nor is it possible to transfer an existing alias to a separate iCloud account. Just some limitations of iCloud accounts to keep in mind.

Are there any instructions to create and alias? I can't figure how to do this. I have found some references online but they refer to a settings gear, when logged into iCloud, that isn't there when I login. I think those instructions are outdated.

Still works for me exactly as described by AppleNewton in this thread.

You said you're chaning your name and want on line stuff to reflect this, so do you want the name on the email account change or the email itself?

You can change your name on the email with out an issue under the settings.
