Change iPhone plan to iPhone upgrade plan

Hello, Does anyone know if you can change your iPhone order to the Upgrade option? I wasn't an option at checkout and Apple said to call them back when I get the phone. Has anyone tried changing to the upgrade plan after the fact? Just wondering what my luck would be. Thanks!
