change the display type when playing a game

hey guys

i wanted to know if there's an opportunity to set the screen-type for an particular application ?

i'm using a macbook pro with an 22" Display. Well the problem is not just all games are running that good under a 1650 x resolution.

i also heard that it is a hard strain for the computer to let something run on the other display and with a 128 mb gf 8600 graphics chip i need all power to run a game

so i would like to let a certain application run under the macbook pro screen

is that possible ?
