Something minor, but OS X say I can't do it. But does anyone know a way to do it? I noticed a spelling mistake in a friend's name, little things like that bug me.

I was thinking maybe if I used some back-up software I could then edit, but I don't know of many. Or even if you can. Any ideas?

You can try to create a new user with the correct short user name and then copy over the user Library. There could be problems with the ownerships, but nothing that a nice shell command/script couldn't fix.

That's exactly what the Apple document describes how to do.

I tried that, but All the desktop settings and preferences from some programs. It's all the little things that I'd need to move.

I've not read through the things on the Apple site, but it looks to be a better way than copt and paste.
