I can't find this option. When I close the iBook lid, I don't want it to sleep. I don't mind if the LCD sleeps but I don't like how it logs me off of Adium and everything. I want to keep that on. Where do I find this option if it exists?

First, yes, this is possible with the assistance of the extended desktop hack.
Second, NO this is not a good idea. You can read all about the reasons to NOT attempt this in this thread.
Sorry for the confusion.iMatt mini said:What are you saying is a bad idea? Leaving it charging a lot or leaving the screen open. That thread makes it seem like leaving the lid open is a good idea.
So what's the best way to maintain battery life? Letting it go all the way day? I thought that was a myth.
So, should I run it down to 0% or is 75% good enough once a week about?dsharits said:Sorry for the confusion.
Leaving the lid open during operation is necessary, but not while it's charging. I leave mine closed while charging all the time, and I have no problems. Because most of the heat is transferred through the keyboard, it is not a good idea at all to have it not sleep when you close the lid.
The best way to get the most out of your battery life is to keep the electrons moving. This means that you shuldn't leave it charging for weeks at a time, instead you should unplug it once in a while and run it off the battery for a decent amount of time.

Exactly. The iBook should never run with the lid closed. If you want to keep running it with the lid open and the screen shut off, that's fine.rosalindavenue said:What he is saying is a bad idea is rigging an ibook to stay on with a closed lid-- if you keep an ibook on with a closed lid it will cook the logic board; the ibook needs to be open while it is running to dissipate heat. You can run a powerbook with a closed lid (it is called "clamshell mode"_); the aluminum case takes away heat.
I dont think battery life has any relation to the issue.
