As an iPad 2021 11 Pro (M1) owner - what are you talking out? If you flip the iPad upside down - the volume buttons reorientate so down is up, and up is down?

On the iPad mini 6, regardless of how you hold it, whatever button is the upper one or the one to the right in that orientation raises the volume. On other iPads the buttons do not reorientate.
