Changed my mind about macbook...

Hey everyone

I bought a white Macbook 2.0ghz C2D two weeks ago and now realize that I wanted the MBP 2.16 C2D. So I just bought the damn thing on apple store, refurbished. I bought the macbook with my education discount with applecare. If you price it on apple store with a neoprene sleeve and miniDVI to DVI adapter, it comes out to 1708 (tax included). I got everything originally for 1500. I am going to sell it on ebay and am wondering what to start the bid at. I am willing to start it at 1300, which is 400 in savings if you bought it from the apple store. Do you think I have a chance of getting rid of it? Or any ideas of what you would do in my position.

If it was under two weeks then you should be able to return under the cool off period. If not you are out of luck. Best thing is to throw it up for 1,300 as you want and see if someone buys it. If not then lower the price.

Try craigslist first to save some money - obviously only sell locally, ignore the emails offering more than your asking price. Please, if you meet in person, choose a public venue.

Scammers are persistent. In my ads I specifically state, "No scammers, Paypal or cash only. No shipping out of US" yet I still get emails about "This [item] is for my son who is in West Nigeria, can you give me a total to ship there? I will take care of everything." or "I will give you $300 for the $150 camera you are offering via MoneyGram"

Oh I don't mind shipping out of the US, say Canada, UK, Asia but it gets a bit pricey (then have to deal with customs)..it just seems more like a hassle.

Yep it can get pricey for the buyer, but as a seller there is no need to worry about the price as the buyer picks up the shipping cost as well deals with Canadian customs

i'm not sure but didn't the white C2D 2.0 GHz sell for 1099 at apples refurb store? so selling it for 1300 means you want 200 for the neoprene and the adaptor and the applecare. so you'll need some luck to get 1300 plus shipping but your price is certainly o.k.

It's more like "the scammers scripts are persistent".

Speaking of eBay scammers... I recently decided to sell my MBP C2D on eBay. It's brand new, purchased in December, and used maybe 4 times at most. I set a buy it now price of $1600, wake up the next day, check my emails only to bombarded with scammers. Amidst all the wacky requests, I found that someone used the buy it now option to win the auction. Make a long story short, one of the scammers won the auction, requested me to ship to Africa to their "business associate", after I clearly stated in my auction that I only shipped to US & Canada. Emailed the person explaining to them my position, of course they never emailed me back. All in all I wound up spending another in 2 weeks in sloooooooooow (on their part) correspondence with eBay, reporting the scam, getting my money back (nearly $75 for the final value fee & list fees!), and getting the user banned.... Just a big ol hassle. I decided it just wasn't worth going through all that again, and decided to keep the MBP.

Moral: Beware of eBay... But, you probablly already new that, heh.

Update

Hello again

I just got back from the local apple store where I bought it. Just returned it, had to pay the restocking fee. They made an exception for me because I am one day over the 2 week return period, so that was nice of them. Also, I got the cash back for the neoprene case. No luck on the DVI adapter as I lost the original packaging for it. The applecare can be transferred to the MBP when it arrives, although I have to call up applecare to get that settled.

All in all, I was in luck. Don't have to deal with ebay scammers. And I can't wait for my new MBP! I had always been envying the larger screen and dedicated graphics. Should have followed my instincts.. And to those of you hanging on the fence, just go with the nicer model because you're probably going to have it for a very, very long time. Trust me you don't want the hassle of selling your original purchase.

I on the other hand returned my matte 15" MBP 2.16 for a 13" Black MB 2.0 due to the horrible LCD screen quality found on my MBP.
My MB LCD screen is much crispier with no grain whatsoever and with the money I saved I spent it on (2) 1GB ram.

Though MBPs look very sexy and I'd purchase one, I'm actually glad I stuck with a Macbook

Yes I can understand where you're all coming from. I really, really liked the macbook. I felt the 13" was too small for me, and the extra money I would spend on an LCD monitor could be put towards a 15" screen, dedicated graphics, a single RAM module, etc. As I do enjoy gaming and probably won't be buying another computer for several years, I think the MBP is a better fit for my needs. It really comes down to what you do with the computer... I've read so many threads comparing MP and MBP - the differences are obvious, but the applications you use on a daily basis seem to be the determining factor.

In any case, FedEx reports that my MBP is arriving tomorrow. Turns out 2 day shipping is really 2 days! Unfortunately I have to drive into Manhattan and Queens tomorrow morning for business... bugger. But three weeks and I'm off to Sydney. Yes.
