Apologies if this has been discussed but I can't find anything on it. I've noticed this behaviour with Apple Wallet since iOS 15.4 I don't know if it was in earlier versions.

When I go to pay for something at a NFC point of sale, I no longer get the option to select which payment card I want to use, it automatically pays with my default card. This is annoying as I use different cards to pay for different things. The behaviour in previous iOS versions was that when the phone was in range of an NFC POS, wallet would pop up with my payment cards, and I could tap on whichever card I wanted to use before using touch ID on the home button (I'm using an iPhone SE 2) to confirm payment.

Reading some Apple documentation I've found that I can enable an option to double press the home button prior to payment to bring up wallet and select a card, in practice once I am in range of the POS just having my finger on the touch ID confirms payment with my default card before I get a chance to select the card I want to use.

Has anyone else noticed this, and does anyone have an effective work around???

Yes, today, I discovered this cumbersome behavior.

I help someone who is home bound and shop for them frequently. I have one of their cards in my Apple wallet.

When I attempted to pay for a purchase today I placed my iPhone on the terminal.

Rather then being shown the credit cards I was greeted with a gray screen telling me to unlock my wallet.

I unlocked my wallet with Touch ID and before I could select the correct credit card their purchase was charged to my credit card.

It seems like Apple did not get the memo about “Don’t fix what isn't broken.”

I have found no way to revert to the former behavior.

It appears the only solution is to unlock the iPhone before attempting to make a payment.

I think the motivation is to speed up payments (the previous way the user needs to select the card, this way they don't).

Still they could add a "None" option to the "Default Card" menu (like they already do under the "Express Transit Card" menu).

Not from my experience and many, way too many, transactions.

Previously it was two steps.

1. Place locked iPhone at terminal and Apple Wallet appears.
2. Touch Touch ID and payment is made with default credit card.

If i waned to use a different credit card I could select it before touching the Touch ID.
