Changes in Continuity for external Bluetooth dongles?

Has 10.11 made any changes to help with the lack of Continuity support for some older Macs? I have a mid-2011 Mini and it's one of the Continuity orphans. I doubt Apple's going to support the built-in Bluetooth, but is there any sign of support for external Bluetooth dongles? Thanks!
