iPod Changes in iTunes USED TO autosynch my iPhone4 ...

Am I missing something here?

There was a time when I could open iTunes while my iPhone was plugged in to my PC, and every time I changed ANY INFO in a song, my iPhone would automatically synch whatever I just did. I changed a rating in my library from *** to ****, and my phone would synch the rating for that one song automatically.

iTunes no longer does this for me and I can't find the setting that allows this to happen. Please help me fix this without making me feel stupid.
