I’ve had @me.com email since MobileMe and it’s always frustrated me that once icloud came along, that the Apple ID was always @me.com and the @icloud.com was an alias. I could log in to Apple ID and iTunes using either, but it always visually reverted to @me.com.

Today I logged in to Apple ID and there was a new option under ‘Account’ to allow me to select either @me.com or @iCloud.com as my ID. Once the iCloud was selected, it also allowed me to log in to iTunes using the same address and it didn’t revert back to @me.com and showed my iTunes account as @iCloud.com.

This is heaven for me. Since transitioning to iCloud, I just wanted to remove all traces of @me.com and this now looks like it’s possible!

Is this new, or have I just discovered it?

I also prefer @Me. Its also a lot easier whenever you have to call any company and they ask for your email address.

I prefer an email address from one of my free providers.

Easier to access then my main ISP email account if I ever move.

I could but do not use @me or @icloud. Those are obvious iCloud addresses and iCloud Activation lock does you no good if someone can easily guess your Apple ID email based on what they know about you.

I think @me.com sounds far too egotistical and self absorbed. From experience, when giving the @me.com email over the phone or to another person, they always asked for the spelling, but with iCloud, this is never asked.

Never once have I ever encountered a problem. Been using it for 5+ years.

My primary Apple ID has 5 email aliases set up (one for each family member) where any email to those aliases goes to that one Apple ID mailbox. They also need to allow us to change an Alias @mac.com to forward to another one of our other Apple ID's instead, or even to make it an Apple ID of it's own.

When I created my first @mac.com email, the kids were all young and I created email aliases for them, where we'd make shared iTunes purchases on the main Apple ID mac.com, but then we'd all have an alias for email. This allowed the parents to monitor the kids emails, and the aliases are all a highly coveted @mac.com address.

Then later when they were older and we needed an Apple ID for everyone to sync their iPhones, we couldn't convert the aliases to Apple ID's and so their favorite email addresses to use as an ID were already being used (by the aliases). So they had to use their "second choice" email addresses for everyone to sync to the iCloud (these are all @me.com addresses). They were not happy at all about this.

They all have access to the main Apple ID that we share, so they can access mail sent to their aliases, but any emails sent to their aliases will be seen by the other family members, so they don't use these. It would be nice to recover them as an Apple ID. Apple ignores my requests.

My Apple ID is my Gmail which I don’t use other than for my Apple ID.

The Gmail app itself does. I actually prefer it over the stock Mail app.

@me is sooo much better.

When I give people my @me address they always ask how they can get one.
