Changes YOU would like to see in new MBP's

I'm just curious as to what changes people would like to see in upcoming Macbook Pro's. Something I would personally like to see is a Hi Def screen option, but with the new LED screens I don't know how probbible that is.

I would also like it if they offered the MBP in a White Black and Silver casing.

I know there are a LOT of you that would argue with that, but those are just my personal opinions and i'm curious to hear about yours.
 
OLED Screen (Not likely, but I'd settle for LED Backlighting)
160GB HDD @ 7200rpm
Blu-ray & HD-DVD Read/write w/ Lightscribe
New Case Design, the current MBP/PowerBook Design is getting old. :p
Capacitor Battery (Google It)
A surprise Leopard Pre-installation!:D

This will be my first Mac and I want the 17-inch one.

-Santa Rosa with Robson
-LED
-New case design
-250GB HDD
-2GB RAM
-Blu-Ray Dr (atleast as an option)
-eSATA ports
-User replacable HDD

....and leopard! ;)
 
More LCD movement,
stronger material
less heat
better display : no grain, uniform light, viewing angles, color gamut
better sound
smaller adapter
easily replaceable hd
 
I'll e-mail Steve this list of emprovements right away. He had better get on them too. ;)
 
I'd like a octo-xeon processor, 8GB RAM, 1TB 10,000rpm HD, 6x Blu-Ray drive, HD screens, oh and if it could make me coffee, iron my shirts and cook for me that'd be awesome too.
 
Two main things:

-A user replaceable hard drive. That's MANDATORY on any computer I buy-I will buy a Dell if the new MBP dosen't have this.

-And then at least a decent mid-range GPU like the Geforce 8600 line.

-I wouldn't mind a Blu Ray drive, especially if it's a burner and/or reasonably priced (I figure I might rent stuff for it).

-A 15 and/or 17" Macbook. Apple's 17" model starts at over $2500, right? A Windows 17" model starts at maybe $800ish. It's crazy that you can't get even a 15" notebook from them for under $2000. This isn't 1995.

-Okay, this is out there (for now), but I'd love a four CPU system. Two CPUs are starting to look kind of whimpy :D

Ugh. Why?!?!? OLED sucks, unless you like short lived, unreliable screens. Thankfully the few places OLED screens were being used experimentally got switched back to LCDs...you know, that actually work (even if they're a bit more expensive.) OLED seems like something Packard Bell would have used, not Apple :D

What I'd *love* to see:
- The hybrid drive/whatever it is that increases boot time
- Better battery life
- LED backlighting
- SR, 2.2 & 2.4Ghz
- 160GB standard HD and/or user replaceable HDs for the MBP

Of course there are others, but those would be the nicest and aren't horribly unrealistic, except maybe the first I suppose.

Oh, and out of genuine curiosity - why do people want blu-ray or HD-DVD drives on their laptops?

No, try HP, Toshiba, etc. You can find something like that pretty much weekly. A lot of them are pretty much comparable to a Macbook in hardware, but with a much better keyboard and screen, and a cheaper price.

EDIT: Speaking of which, I just got an email from Newegg with a $700 HP dual core 17" notebook with 1GB and a 120GB hard drive.

I'd want a Blu Ray drive as I'd assume that I'd probably want to start renting Blu Ray movies during the useful life of my laptop. Hopefully OS X will let you watch movies using an external unit though (since I'd rather buy one for $150 two years from now than $500 today...)
 
Well I'm hoping to get a 15.4'' Centrino Pro MBP with these specs:

2.4GHz Core 2 Duo
4GB Ram
200GB 7200rpm HD (Toshiba just started shipping them this past week)
LED Display
Nvidia 8M GPU

If I can get like 3 hours of battery life with this, I'll be happy. If I need to get 6 hours, I'll use my iBook.

Throw in a user replaceable hard drive and that would be PERFECT. Literally perfect.

- LED backlit keyboard
- > 250 gig drive @ 7200 RPM
- use of FLASH / Robson Technology
- HD - DVD or BD burner/drive
- 1080p screen

What sort of lighting does Apple use now for the fiber optics system?
 
A 12 or 13 inch with the aluminium casing. A bunch of my friends (and myself) are sticking it out with their 12" powerbooks because we travel a lot and it is a sturdy and compact little beast. My first generation 12" is still going strong despite being more than 4 years old.

That's acctually not true. True glass fiber optics are only used in long FO runs such as 24 strand or 12 strand fiber cables for city, inter city, and inter continental runs. For short runs such as cars or airplanes they use a mixture of glass and plastic, and for very short runs they use just high quality plastic.

I would know this because I spent a year of my life in Iraq installing and terminating Fiber Optic cables and before that went to a stupid stupid stupid school to learn this stupid information.

... so there you have it. the fiber optic cables they use in computers is most likely high quality plastic.

They already have an HD res screen. Are you saying you want a 16:9 option instead of the 16:10 computer ratio? If you want that 1900x1200 15" screen, you're nuts. Everybody who uses those sits with their face about 5" from the screen trying to read stuff. There are limits, you know.

Yeah. The only way I'd want an even higher resolution is if Apple gets true, perfect resolution independence working. That's supposed to be a feature of 10.5 (and Vista, supposedly), though who knows how well it works.

Without that, dealing with a crazy high resolution on a tiny screen is not my idea of fun. These are already too high resolution for a lot of people to comfortably use.
 
I want....

MBP all black w/ white apple (like mmackbook)
2.2 ghz core2duo santa rosa platform w/ turbocache
2 gig of ram (667 mhz min.... 800 would be nice)
160+ gig HD
15.4" LED LCD (1440x 900 is fine for me but higher is welcome)
ATI Radeon X2X00 or Nvidia Geforce 8X00 (preferably ATI)
user replacable HD
More usb/Firewire ports as I will be buying flight sim gear in the near future for X-Plane (soon starting flight school :) )

for no more than 2300 w/student discount (as I am a college student... and 2300 is plenty to spend on a comp)

A beta install DVD of Leopard would be nice too :)


I DO NOT want a BR or HD-DVD drive because neither one has won the "war" yet (though it seems to be leaning towards BR) and because these discs may be irrelevant in the near future with all the newer Internet, computer, tv, etc technologies coming out. Also... a typical BR drive/player is around $1000 on its own... so I doubt they'd include one
 
I think it's kinda leaning towards HD instead of BR. I'm not sure on the exact specifications. But yeah, isn't Apple on the B.O.D. for one of those? wouldn't they more likely put in the one that they're trying to sell.
