You can change it from applied.apple.com. Changing it from there won't have any disadvantages, but creating a new one will.

Tip: If you want to change it to your @me account, you can't.

don't think you can "merge" apple ID's...

Why don't you just authorize your iTunes to get the content from the ID you no longer want, then just use the apple ID you do want from here on out?

By "changing" your Apple ID, all you are doing is changing the email associated with your ID.

Log in to the site I linked to and look for "Manage your account". Once signed in, you'll see the option to change your ID. Enter the email you'd like it to be and you're done.

Why do you want to change it?

hazy does not understand what you want.. he thinks you are just trying to change the email on your account.

Like I said, afaik, you CAN NOT merge two apple ID's together. You will need to authorize your computer for the old ID so that you can use those purchases and downloads. Then you will use your new ID from this point forward to download all of your music, apps, books, etc.

This is correct. I also don't think you can merge 2 Apple ID's.

OP: If all you want is to use a different email account, use my link. If you've purchased items with 2 different ID's, Burton is correct.

But he isn't really wanting to merge the id's... He wants to change his ID to his personal, non-Apple e-mail. He just might have set the personal e-mail as an Apple ID before, so he just has to get rid of it or delete it. Though, not really delete... He just has to change both of them. There is a workaround since both ID's are non-Apple e-mail accounts.

If you want your personal e-mail address on your main iTunes account, what you'll need, is access to your personal e-mail account and a throw away e-mail account (a spam account you might have set up or just one you randomly create for this specifically.

1. go to appleid.apple.com
2. Log in as amitabhbansal@hotmail.com (your personal account)
3. Change the e-mail address on this account to another e-mail account
(This could be a spam account you have or another useless e-mail account you create for this.)
4. Make sure you remove any trace of your personal e-mail account from this Apple ID.
5. Log Out
6. Log into appleid.apple.com with your main iTunes account. (amitabhenterprises@hotmail.com)
7. Now, you should be able to change your apple id e-mail account to your personal e-mail account without any problems since the other e-mail is no longer tied to any Apple ID.

At least in theory, that should work. I've changed my Apple ID several times to non-@me.com addresses. I've even done something like this once, so it should be possible since both of your e-mail accounts are non-Apple e-mail accounts.

I hope that helps!

i mean, based on what the OP asked.. he is definitely trying to "merge" or get all purchases under ONE account...

your idea could work too, but if he has different things purchased under each account, he is going to still be missing the downloads from one of his accounts.

It's still way easier to just authorize your machine for the old account, then just use your new account for all future purchases. No need to go around making new e-mails, changing ID's back and forth, etc. Just authorize your old account and don't use it anymore..

I'm another one who wanted to change the log-in email to a current one. When I try to follow the directions on apple.com, I can't because my main email and my log-in are the same - listed in the same box, not separate boxes where a change could be made.

Somehow, in all my fussing with this, I did manage to change my Apple, App Store and iCloud ID login to my @me.com. I have no idea how that happened because I kept getting error messages when I was trying to make the change.

However, iTunes is still my old email - and all my receipts for app purchases still go to that address. I have to keep the old address active because of this. PITA. It makes no sense that you have to use an email address as a log-in ID and it's something cast in stone - unchangeable.

True enough. Still, I like to keep one e-mail address, and the whole authorizing thing creates its own ongoing set of hoops to jump through. At least, that's my opinion. It's one reason I've never used an Apple account as my iTunes ID. It is actually harder on folks that have an Apple ID to make a change than it is for us non-KoolAid drinkers... (Just kidding, mostly ;) )
