Changing appleid username to working gmail account

If I change my current appleid username to my working gmail account, will the password be different or the same as my gmail? Also will all my apple emails start going to my working gmail account?

You mean if the password for your Apple account will be the same as that of your Google account? No, they are separate. The Gmail address is just a username as far as Apple is concerned. Apple is not using Google as an OpenID provider like some other services that allow you to log in with your Google credentials.

You can set up your iCloud email to forward all mails to your gmail address.

Thank you for answering my question. I was so confused about that. I dont know why the Apple website recommends customers use their working gmail account as an Apple I.d. if its just a username.

Apple recommends gmail? Where did you see that?

Of course, it has to be a *working* email account since Apple will send account-related notifications to that email address. But it can be any email provider.

I was referring to mails sent to your @icloud.com or @me.com email address. Account-related notifications (e.g. iTunes store receipts, security notifications etc.) will be sent to the email address you are using as Apple ID, if the iCloud address is not your Apple ID.

I'm confused. What exactly do you mean by "working email"? Where is the problem?
