I have an external HD that is partitioned for mac and windows. When I click info on the window partition it says it's format is MAC OS extended. And when I'm in bootcamp it won't read the external HD. I assume I need to change the format to FAT32 which is the format of the window partition. How do I do that?
thanks

it sounds as if I have to click on the far left icon which is the External HD itself and I would have to erase both the mac and window partition - is this correct

my entire bootcamp (windows) is only 9GB, so it should be alright?
Yes it'll be fine.

That is correct. On the far left is the entire drive itself. Under it can be many partitions using different file systems. The entire drive (far left) can be formatted or just one partition. (more to the right and under it)

probably just

Also eidorian couldnt your post just be done with the command line in windows? just a thought
Any volume over 32 GB will be formatted to NTFS in Windows.
