Changing from blackra1n to redsn0w question

With the new workaround with 3.1.3 I want to use redsn0w.

I'm already JB with blackra1n, Do I just upgrade to 3.1.3 and set up as new phone then run redsn0w & point it to 3.1.2?

Or can I restore from backup once I've upgraded to 3.1.3, then run redsn0w as I have pkgbackup installed and would save alot of re-installing stuff

PkgBackup does not require you to restore from backup. It syncs a list of your installed packages to a contact in your address book, and restores from that contact.

As for whether a setting up as new is required: it is not. I would strongly recommend it however, especially as you are switching jailbreaks. You never know what might be preserved of blackra1n that would conflict with redsn0w.
