I created it not thinking what I wanted it to be, and afterward decided I should use the same address as my gmail so things match up and it's easy to remember. I looked everywhere to try and delete my @icloud address so I could create it again, and found nothing. I was able to add an alias as the email I wanted, but I can't use that alias to log on to icloud. Only the original email address which I don't want.

So long story short, I want the alias to be my default @icloud address and get rid of the one that is currently the default one.

Side note. I am NOT talking about my Apple ID (which is set as my gmail account) I KNOW how to change my Apple ID. I wanted the @icloud email address to be the same so I have myname@gmail.com and myname@icloud.com Right now I have myname@gmail.com and someothername@icloud.com with myname@icloud.com as an alias. I want to get rid of someothername@icloud.com and use myname@icloud.com as the default icloud email address.

IIRC Apple shows a warning when creating an iCloud email address that it can't be changed once selected.

But I cant get that address on gmail.... its already taken :(

How do I just disable the icloud email then, and be able to use the mail app with just my gmail account? Theres no point if I have to remember two entirely different email addresses.

That's what I do. Just add your Gmail account and disable the iCloud one. All done in Settings.

I tried this though and if you log into icloud via web, the mail tab wont work at all. It says you need to use icloud email.... I did find how to set default send from address to my alias, and can receive at the alias... I just cant log on with the alias... they should enable ability to log on with the alias too. I guess as long as I dont use the icloud web app, it will mostly be invisible. But I can't believe they would make someone stuck with the same email address forever. Like time to time people change their address due to spam etc. If you get spam coming to your icloud address, will it still show up even if you are using the alias? Theres no way to block incoming email from the default @icloud address. And they want to keep that address forever without any way to change it? Doesn't seem right...

A bit confused. At first it sounded like you didn't want to use your iCloud email address, but now it sounds like you do.

I want to use the address that I put as the alias. Not the actual @icloud email. But I like the alias I picked for @icloud because its the same as my gmail.

I have:

myname@gmail.com
funkyname@icloud.com (as my icloud account)
myname@icloud.com (alias)

I can send and receive email from the alias... so for email it works and I don't see the funkyname one. (no its not 'fuunkyname' lol) but I can't log into icloud with the myname@icloud.com one because its only an alias.

I wanted to get rid of the funkyname one. But that's the default icloud account one.

You can't get rid of your 'real' iCloud email address. Use the alias for your email, but you're stuck with the real address.

Or alternatively don't use iCloud email at all and keep using your Gmail account
