hi guys,
i've gone through MR forums (yes, even the "care to share icon requests" thread) and wasn't able to locate my area of interest so decided to start a thread.
I'm looking to get icon locations on ifile app, which will allow me to change my icons. Now i have tried to change icons for 4-5 app's and have been succesful only with the calculator app. Rest of the app icons continue to remain stock. :(

All my icon images are 118x120 size. I am aware that filenames are case sensitive.

App Store (ICON DOES NOT CHANGE UPON RESPRINGING)
Icon Image Location: /var/stash/Applications.zlolw5/AppStore.app
Filename: icon@2x.png

Music (ICON DOES NOT CHANGE UPON RESPRINGING)
Icon Image Location: /var/stash/Applications.zlolw5/Music~iphone.app
Filename: icon@2x.png

Cydia (ICON DOES NOT CHANGE UPON RESPRINGING)
Icon Image Location: /var/stash/Applications.zlolw5/Cydia.app
Filename: icon@2x.png

iFile (ICON DOES NOT CHANGE UPON RESPRINGING)
Icon Image Location: /var/stash/Applications.zlolw5/iFile.app
Filename: iPhoneAppIcon@2x.png

Calculator (ICON CHANGES UPON RESPRINGING)
Icon Image Location: /var/stash/Applications.zlolw5/Calculator.app
Filename: icon@2x.png

Any help/tips/advice will be welcome... thanks.

I'm also wondering how to change icons, I was on iOS 4.1 just the other day so I'm not sure if it is different from that OS. I tried changing via iFunbox on my Windows machine without any success. I just downloaded Winterboard but still having troubles! :/

I've been able to change the icons by going into the /var/mobile/applications route. They are long numbers instead of names, but by opening and closing each one I can find out which app I'm looking for, since their .app's are in the files.

I also change out 4 png's, not just 1. They each start with "icon" and then the file. There are 4 (sometimes more) of them. I'm not sure if it's overkill on my part, but it's the only way it does it.

It's time consuming, so I haven't done more than 3 or 4, but if you have the time and the will, you can do it.

If you are using a winterboard theme, you may have to change it out in Themes as well. I believe they are in the /var/stash folder.

Delete the following folders and reboot, and see if that helps.

Icon cache:
/var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.IconsCache

Springboard cache:
/var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.springboard
/var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.springboard.sharedimagecache

do u mean delete the entire folder or delete the contents of the folder?
im a bit skeptical about deleting any system folders on ifile as i've not tried it before and i would HATE to mess something up and re-jailbreak and restore etc etc... have you tried this before?

the 4 png's that you do change... what's the resolution of those icon png's. im sure they're not all 118x120 (which is the typical size of ios icons).

also, the location you pointed out to me, the ones with the long numbers and u can figure out which app they are by opening/closing them, i found that too and tried changing the facebook icon there too and renamed the 118x120 icon@2x.png file to the icon file i had, but still no luck :(

You can do either. I have blown those folders away many times before.

A way I discovered last night that is pretty simple.

1) Download Iconmaker
2) Download Ifile
3) Download Winterboard

Generate Icon in iconmaker and then it will take you directly into Ifile.

Once in Ifile

1) Rename icon.png and icon@2x.png to which ever Application Icon you are remaking. (Example: If remaking Cydia icon, rename one Cydia.png and the other Cydia@2x.png)

2) Create a folder inside of /var/mobile/library/IconMaker/ and title it whatever you would like this Icon's theme name to be. (Example:Cydia)

3) Now inside the folder you just created, create a subfolder called "Icons"

4) Now cut the two .png files you previously renamed and paste them into your newly made "icons" folder

5) Now cut the entire "theme" folder you made inside of /var/mobile/library/IconMaker/ (The one I named Cydia)

6) Now paste this in /var/stash/themes

7) It should now show up in Winterboard as a theme, just select and respring and there you go.

Good Luck!!

Here is mine after redoing them all last night
