Changing iMap to POP in Mail.app using Gmail

I presently run Snow Leopard and use Mail as my email client. I receive my email via Gmail which is presently set at iMap with ssl. I wish to change that to POP without the ssl. I am connected to the Internet directly via Satellite using a dish. This gives me a slow conection I know. The iMap and ssl slow it down further. How do I change it over to POP.
