iPad Changing landscape/portrait mode

i have a question...I just bought an iPad Air 2 (im impatient) and it's fantastic but the one hiccup I have notice is the difficulty changing from portrait to landscape or vice versa. I unlock it and rotate accordingly and nothing happens. I've had to restart the iPad to make it take effect. Is this an iPad issue or a 8.4 issue?
 
Software issue. Well at least I can replicate on my mini and ip6+
 
Thanks! I'm glad it's just software issue. Hope 9 resolves it.
 
MacRumors please look into the situation where Instagram 7.5 does not support iPhones using IOS 8.4.1 and find out why and if a fix is in the works please?
 
Well now I finally get the landscape/portrait mode features to work. I again for the 5th time deleted and reloaded onto my iPhone 6 plus with IOS 8.4.1 the Instagram 7.5 app. And with no new Instagram update, still 7.5 now those wonderful features with the two small arrows do appear. (Formerely did not)

But now there is a new problem.

In portrait mode the whole picture does not fit to be able to select even after selecting 2 arrows button. I have to slide image up or down and I have to cut off (crop) part of image

Again I did select arrows (at bottom left) but full image does not appear.

Landscape is perfect as wide skinny pictures work and fully appear in that mode after selecting 2 arrows button.

I'm having the exact same problem with our iPad Air2. It happened 3 times today and every day since updating to IOS 10.1.1. The only way to correct it is to do a hard reset.
My iPhone SE with iOS 10.1.1 works just fine, so the problem seems to be just with the iPads.

A hard reset (term nonexistent in iOS) is probably forcing the device to restart without saving any open documents etc. I don't see the relevance in troubleshooting, the same could be accomplished with a regular restart.

Okay, restart. Pressing and holding home and power button until apple logo shows up. That's the only thing that will restore portrait / landscape switching when rotating iPad.
 
I haven't seen this problem on my iPad since deleting the game "Bubble Cloud". This game runs in portrait mode only so it's possibe there's some kind of 'house keeping' not being done properly after the game is ended.

Not sure, but may be the cause.

So you're saying a regular restart won't fix it? A regular restart is operated via the power button only.
 
No, restart (power button only) did not fix it. Had to do the home button and power button until the Apple logo showed up.

BUT, deleting that game mentioned above seems to have fixed it... at least so far.
 
Just saying that I doubt the fix is in the different restart. The thread is from last year anyway, different OS version back then as well.

It's still an ongoing issue in iOS 10.x. My mini 4 screen rotation sticks, and instead of restarting, the quickest way that I've found to correct it is to open the camera. After the camera is opened you can see the camera controls go to the appropriate orientation, and rotation works fine after that...until is randomly sticks again. I've had beta 10.2 on it as well, and the rotation still sticks from time to time. I reported the sticking issues in betas for 10.1 and .2 to Apple. Also, my wife has had the same occurrences on her mini 4. Who knows when/if they'll identify and resolve the issue?!
 
Okay, the "Bubble Cloud" game wasn't the culprit. My iPad Air2 still has this problem on IOS 10.1.1. It arbitrarily locks up in portrait mode.

As Mylo130 suggestsed, opening the camera app, rotate it or press some buttons, fixes the orientation problem. Much faster than rest. Thanks for the suggestion Mylo130.

No worries. Stumbled on the camera trick by chance.
 
I noticed that IOS 10.2 is out. I haven't downloaded/installed it yet but wonder if this update fixed the "landscape / portrait" issue?

Anyone who had this problem on their iPad -- and who updated care to provide any status? Thanks.

Looks like the issue is still present on my iPad Air 2 after updating to iOS 10.2.

Maybe the powers that be at Apple don't know about this problem yet or... it's not an easy fix.
 
This has happened to me a few times recently, but powering the iPad off then on again cures it.
Let's hope Apple can fix it with a software update.
iPad Air 2.

Many people in this forum sended them a bug report about this problem but, sadly, till now nothing happened. Dear Apple, how many months we have to wait?
 
It's happened to me a couple of times on my Mini 4. First time, I restarted it. Next time I stopped using it for a little bit and it was back to normal when I came back to it.

Never happened before updating to 10.2.

Ever since the latest update (10.3.??) this problem is now fixed. Hurray!
