I Bootcamped Windows XP onto an entire 160 GB drive, which had to be formatted to the no-read/no-write variety. So now on my Mac desktop, there sits this ugly standard "untitled" drive icon in the middle of all my nicely configured Mac icons. Is there any way that I can dress this thing up, so it fits in with its brethren? Does Windows XP even care what my drive icon and name are?

Yes, this is all possible.

To change the icon, follow these directions (at bottom of page). Unfortunately, at least for me, this only changed the icon I see once inside OS X, which is what I mainly wanted, but it does not change the icon you see when selecting the partition to boot to at startup. If anyone knows how to change this, I'd be interested in knowing.

To change the name (again, only works inside OS X, at boot selection, it sticks with the default "Windows"), boot into Windows, right click on your C drive, and select "Properties". I don't remember exactly which one needs to be filled out, but if you look through the different tabs of properties, there should be one that allow you to change the name of the drive. Just to cover all bases, I went ahead and filled out every one that looked like it could be used to recognize the drive, and it worked.

Well, this made sense up to this line:

5.- Transfer the ".VolumeIcon.icns" file created on the FAT file system to the root of the NTFS partition, using Windows.

I booted into Windows, and looked around the FAT files of the "USBSTICK", but couldn't find ".VolumeIcon.icns" Where am I supposed to find it exactly?

It should be in the root folder of the USB drive.

If you can't see it, you might have to tell Windows to let you see hidden files and folders... (In OS X the "." at the beginning of the filename tells the file to be hidden, so they probably made it hidden to Windows as well).

Actually it's easier than this...I just right clicked on my C Drive icon in My Computer in XP and changed it to "Windows HD." Worked fine.
