Changing ownership of OfficeX

I bought a used 600mhz iBook. The owner had installed 10.2 and OfficeX (I'm not sure if OSX came installed ofiginally). I have the disks and product keys.

When I got the iBook all his user info was still there, so I created a new user account and blew removed the old. Then installed the Service Pack for OfficeX. Now every time I start an office app I have to type in the product key. I've deleted Office and started over, but it still thinks it's registerd to to the old user, and I have to put in the key over and over.

Is there somewhere besides the Office Folder that this thing is keeping information about the previous user?

Well, in your preferences, and in your Documents/Microsoft User Data... but these are personal things like settings, prefs, and so on.
There are a couple of hidden files in your Office directory aswell. Try the <COMMAND>-F, and add the visibility criterium, setting it to all.
Because the Office registration is "System wide", it's not user dependant.
If I were you, I would delete everything related to Office, and install again.
Make sure the first run will be executed again.

Thanks, I tried most of that and it didnt work. Deleting and reinstalling didn't do it either. I'd hate to have to reformat and install my OS and everything over again... mostly because I don't know how to do that on Macs.

try using the terminal
with the command : ls -al you should see every file in your office folder ( if you located yourself into it do so by executing the command : cd /Applications/Office_folder/ ( where office_foldger ) is the name of your office folder ) )
you should now see some files you can t see when looking at the folder in the finder.
delete these. They will probably be redone with the first new launch of office v.X ...

If it doesn t work like that, just try uninstalling Office X again, looking in the libraries folder paying attention there is no file used by office left. ( in which he could have saved the information, and reinstall the crap )

By the way, i d just use open office. it s far better
