I'd like to change all of the folders from the bright blue that came with Sierra to a different color - one that’s more muted. Is there a way to do that globally? Thanks.

ny somewhere
you need an app like liteicon: http://freemacsoft.net/liteicon/
you want to find icons that work (or PM me if you want my set); otherwise, try deviantart.com, etc
then you need to google how to disable SIP; you do that, change the icons, then reboot and reenable SIP...

Hi, I actually found the youtube deviantart video before I read your reply. Using deviantart I'm able to change some groups of folders but not all - I can't change anything in Applications, Library, Systems or Users folders. At least the folders on my desktop are changed and no longer bothersome.

I'll give yours a try. It sounds complicated, as I don't even know what SIP is. (I hope the next version of Mac OS allows us to simply change the color within the system preferences.) Thanks so much for posting.
