Hi,

They say iOS 14 allows you to change the default e-mail app. I've updated GMail to the latest version, which is said to be compatible with this feature. In my Settings GMail is set as the default (and only, actually) e-mail client.
And yet when I open a contact's details and try to send him/her an e-mail, I get the same error message that I used to get in the past. Namely, that Mail.app is not installed on this phone, and I must choose between opening the AppStore to reinstall it, or aborting.

So what does this 'default' thing mean? Now that GMail is set as 'default', what change am I expected to see? It seems to me everything is exactly as it was before. What am I missing?

Thank you.

Are you on the latest iOS 14.0.1 update which has some fixes related to default app functionality? That said, based on some reports it seems that there are still some scenarios where things aren't always working properly with default apps even with iOS 14.0.1, so it's possible there are some tweaks that still need to be made and hopefully will be coming in future updates.
