Hi,

I just have a question regarding raid settings on external hard drives. I hope this is the right forum, but if not feel free to move it.

I am interested in a larger external HD for my movie collection. Kind of like this WD model: http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digit...?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1264709082&sr=8-13

So my question is can I change the raid setting after I load my files onto it? I see this particular unit can do raid 0 and 1.

My movie collection is kind of small right now at around ~600 GB. So I was thinking I would load my files onto the HD with a raid 1 mirrored setup so I can have better data protection(not that I can't replace the files, but it would be a hassle to re-rip them), but then change to raid 0 later as my collection grows and I need more space.

Is what I am thinking possible? Or would changing the raid setting erase all the files?

Thanks.

Unfortunately changing the raid settings will erase your data.

I kind of figured it would, but I wasn't sure.
