Okay, this is me being real picky, but I want to give my Windows volume (NTFS) a custom icon in the Boot Loader.

I found these instructions here but can't get them to work. In essence, I copy the file (.VolumeIcon.icns) to the root of C: in Windows but the drive icon doesn't change in the Boot Loader.

Has anyone successfuly done this?

Does the custom icon show up when you are booted to OS X or not even?

I haven't given my NTFS partition a custom icon yet, but I did run into some issue just copying the .VolumeIcon.icns to a USB stick for fun. I had to run a command from Terminal to make it visible.

Looks like it can't be done.
it's not currently possible to change the icon for the bootloader unless you use a rEFIt as the bootloader...
I've changed the Windows volume icon in OS X but the Boot Loader can't be changed for the Windows volume.

No big deal. :)

Apparently the Boot Loader only checks to see if the other (Windows) partition exists, it doesn't actually read from it. Hence, the default icon at the selection screen.

You can customize the OS X icon just by changing it from within OS X; the Boot Loader will recognize it.
