I always charge my iPhone with my Mac at work. As long as I can remember the charging current was always 2.1A (500mA current with 1600mA extra operating current), but somehow right now it's only 0.5A, there is no extra operating current. Has anyone encountered the same issue?

My iPhone is iPhone 12 Pro, connected to the MacBook Pro 14" (M1 Pro) via an Apple USB-C to Lightning cable.

somebody correct me if I am wrong but lightning is just USB 2.0 and from Wikipedia:

"The USB 1.x and 2.0 specifications provide a 5 V supply on a single wire to power connected USB devices.

A unit load is defined as 100 mA in USB 2.0, and 150 mA in USB 3.0. A device may draw a maximum of 5 unit loads (500 mA) from a port in USB 2.0; 6 (900 mA) in USB 3.0."

FWIW, I have M1 MBA and with iPhone 13 plugged into USB, Current Available & Required is 500mA, while Extra Operating Current is 1900mA.

Yes I am having the same issue. Just switched from a 2019 MBP 16" to a (second hand) 2022 MBP 14" and now my iPhone doesn´t charge anymore. The extra operating current is at 0mA. Cable is fine, wallcharging works fine.

Update. I tried with a different USB-C to Lightning cable, and a different USB-C port on my computer, no difference on the charging current.

Guys, I too am used to charging my iphone with my macbook. My ancient 2018 macbook pro charges my iphone quickly, but the m1 16" macbook pro charges only so slowly, 500 ma just like everyone else mentioned. Any fix here?

I've got a 14" and a XS. Since Ventura my iPhone doesn't charge or charges 1% in an hour when connected with a apple usb-c lightning cable. It does show I'm getting 1900 extra current.

Update: With Ventura, my MacBook Pro now charges iPhone with 2400mA current (500 + 1900 extra).

I think I did witness this happening, but suspect it was due to optimised charging on phone at the time I tested.

Same issue for me: M1 MacBook Pro 14" (Ventura 13.2.1) + iPhone XS (iOS 16.3.1), charging with an Apple USB-C to lightning cable.

Like others, when my phone is plugged into my MBP, it barely charges. Leaving it attached to my computer overnight, it charged roughly 20%. According to System Information, I'm getting the extra 1900 operating current, but it really don't seem that way.

Do we know if this is specific to Apple Silicon? Or specific to certain iPhone models? Right now it looks to be isolated to Apple Silicon + iPhone XS or XR.

Looks like a similar thread here, https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254340132.

Following up: I just tried charging my wife's iPhone 12 mini and there was no issue.

This seems to be isolated to specific iPhone models (XS and XR, so far).

I can report that it appears to be isolated to the XS and XR models. I’m on Monterrey and charging an older IPhone 8 Plus results in fast Charging Using the m1 macbook pro. My XS max charges very slowly with the same cable or laptop.

I haven't been tracking after any updates but I just plugged it into my XS into my macbook pro 14 M1 today and it's charging as expected. No more 1% per hour!
