On my iPhone 16 Pro Max I did the update to iOS 18.1.1 and noticed while I was tethered to my Macbook Pro via a USB-C cable, that the battery charged to 100%. Double checked in settings -> battery, that it was set to limit to 80% which it was.

Toggled it up to 100% then back down to 80%. Still showing 100% - just started doing it today. It was fine yesterday after the update.

Also, my battery has been at 100% for a solid hour and a half now (not charging) - so either the indicator is wrong, or I have a SUPER battery now 😂

Anybody else notice this on their iPhone?

Noticed the same thing after updating to iOS 18.1.1
It went beyond the selected limit which was 80%
And it did charge to 100%

It's supposed to do that to keep the battery readings accurate. And 100% does last longer on a full charge because it considers everything past a certain charge level to be 100.

I rebooted 3 times. The first 2 reboots, it still showed 94%

The 3rd reboot, it dropped to 74% which should be in line with the 80% limit. So clearly a bug.

So it wasn’t the charge limiter but a bug showing the actual charge level … 🤔
That’s strange. Are you sure it isn’t a defective battery ?

I rebooted the second day. And left the phone to charge to 80% it did stop charging over 80%

It might be a calibration setting that Apple have implemented to keep accurate battery.
Although u was planing to calibrate manually once every month.

It didn’t happen to me (yet), but as far as I understand every now and then the charge limit is deactivated to allow the battery to fully charge

Well it only happened this one instance after updating and seems fine now. I only have 59 charge cycles on the battery, and it is a launch iPhone 16 PM- I’m not ruling it out, but hopefully it was just a glitch from iOS 18.1.1, or what some suggested here (that it’s supposed to do that as a function for calibrating the battery) - although, not sure if rebooting it should have changed anything. Maybe I interrupted its process 🤷🏾‍♂️

Well the charge limit glitch could be just the update, but it is quite strange what you said about the displayed level that changed at every reboot 🤔

10 day later, I had the same issue it changed itself to 100% although I had the limit to 80%
No I start to doubt it was not battery calibration as it happened after i updated the iOS and happened again within 10 days 😓

Mine did it a few times but seems to have stopped doing it over the last week.

Well, it is written it could happen “occasionally”
