Bit of a Family Sharing debacle.

Got an Apple ID I use for all purchases which was like a joint account with the wife. She has her Apple ID and I have another Apple ID so that first ID is used purely for App Store and iTunes Store purchases.

When setting up family sharing I thought it was pretty cool that it allows for this with a "Family Purchases" ID linked to the organisers account.

So, Apple Music released, signed up straight away for the Family Subscription. After using it for a few hours, realised I was on the Family Purchases Apple ID, not my Apple ID. So, sign out of the Music App and sign in with my Apple ID. Asks me to select a subscription. So, I tried a few things, signing out of everything, signing back in again and still, it asked for a subscription choice.

Figured I'd get the 3 months trial, so selected the Family sub, 14.99, and it invoiced me straight away and now says my next payment is on the 1st August. So assume I have or will be charged for this (not had a chance to check the bank yet).

Got a support call tomorrow evening, but wondering if this is a first or if anyone else has had or heard of this happening?

Pretty much same thing happened to me. I had my iTunes account for purchase shared between wife and I. Cancelled the auto renew setup family share on my main appleid. Added old account and wife to family. Selected family apple music and seemed to invoice me with renewal July 30. Let us know how support call works out.

Will do. Call is at 6pm GMT Friday.

What happened? I just got an email that I was charged. Reporting a problem comes up with error that my transaction wasn't found or something like that. I will try to contact them I think.

I received an invoice for the family sharing plan today, had live chat and it's been escalated to a team who can only be contacted by email (WTF? ) so will hear within 48 hours apparently.

Glad it's not just me.

Apparently my family sharing setup can't be seen on one of their systems. So I had another call about it last night, they're still looking in to it and I think they're ringing back this evening, hopefully with a resolution. I think its probably going to be a reset, basically ditch the existing family sharing (can't currently as I have a child added to it with an account created with family sharing), ditch the existing trial and then start over with both the family sharing and the Apple Music family trial.

Received this from Apple

Dear iTunes Customer,

Thank you for signing up for the free trial of Apple's new streaming service, Apple Music. Unfortunately, there was an error that caused your account to be charged for the first month's subscription despite the free trial offer.

The problem has been corrected and we have issued a full refund to your account for the charge. You should see a credit of £14.99 to your original payment method within 5 business days. Your existing Apple Music free trial will continue without further interruptions.

Exactly the same thing happened to me. I got the extra charge reversed, but then couldn't connect my individual Apple ID to the Organizer (master) account, as it kept telling me that I had already used my free trial and I'd have to pay. Spent an hour or so on the phone last night with support, and got it all sorted out. For me, the issue was that when I was setting up the Family members, I set the email address of the Organizer in that dropdown of the shared account for purchases (it's a dropdown on a Mac; not sure what it looks like on iOS). Instead, that needs to be just the email of the family member (which is the default). Then we signed out of iTunes, and re-connected it, and it is now working perfectly. I think it is very non-tolerant of user setups that aren't EXACTLY what it expects. So what worked for me is: a master (Organizer) account, and four normal (Family Member) accounts - each with their own sharing email (not pointing to the master).

Happened to me too. Signed up for the service with one ID, all was fine, then decided to sign out and subscribe again with a different ID, but on the same iPhone. Got charged right away. Luckily in Europe we have 14 days to ask for a refund on any digital purchase so I did that. In 24 hours I had a reply from Apple and a full refund of the wrong charge.

I wonder if you have gift card credit on your account, if the charges for Apple Music will be drawn from that before charging a card is done.

A-ha! Here's the answer I got from Apple:

Please know as well that only one device can be used to download the free trial and since the same device was used you were charged for the second download.

Pretty much given up on this (Apple Music) until the issue is resolved. Still on going.

That makes sense what I did was sign up for the fee trial on my original account. Then I switched over to family sharing (which involved moving around apple IDs - another story) and resigned up for family package under my new account.

Happened to me also. I was told i would get the $14.99 credit but it's been 8 days and no credit. Also they can't fix it get the 3 months free. Once you sign up for a single plan on a device you can't change to family plan for 3 months free.
