Charging a MacBook Pro 16" M1 Max with a 67 Watt charger

Is it possible to charge a – maxed out – MacBook Pro 16" M1 Max with a 67 Watt charger?

I'll be travelling soon and I can't take the 140 Watt charger onto the airplane. I wanted to order a 140 or 100 Watt charger in the destination country, but Apple cannot delivered either of them till mid February.

You can charge it with the 20W iPad charger if you like. It just won't be as fast especially if you're pushing it to it's full capabilities.

You don't need an Apple charger. Any USB Power Delivery Charger will work.

Is there a limit for the charger? I thought there was a 100Whr limit on batteries, but I’d be surprised if they care about the charger. Are you concerned about whether it will work in the aircraft outlets, or if they’ll let you carry it on?

You can charge it with any USBC. But it will be slower, that’s all. Also the limit is on batteries not the charger, unless something changed.

Greater than 100Wh batteries are not ok. The 16 is ok for planes.

Power adapters of any size are ok, and can be used in flight.

I have an 16 M1 Max 32 Core GPU. I use it with an LG monitor that pushes out 57W USB C charging. It charges under light load VERY slowly. Under heavy load it just sustains the battery. So you absolutely can charge it, it just won't be fast.

Since I like to keep my desk clean/clutter-free, I'm using a usb-c hub with my M1 Max and the hub is currently connected to a 20-watt iPad charger. It is enough to slowly charge the M1 Max. It works but very slowly. I'm just waiting for my proper charger to arrive. I will keep the magsafe charger in my travel bag so I don't have to remember to pack one.

I recently lost my 140 watt charger that came with my macbook pro 16 m1 pro. In my experience, with the 18 watt charger i was able to go from 0 to 80% in about 5 hours and after that it didn't rise above 80%. I recently purchased the 67 watt charger since i couldn't get my hands on a 96 or 140 watt. I was able to charge from about 20% to 100 percent in about an hour and half. In my opinion the 67 watt is very capable and it seems to have kept the battery relatively cool

Are you sure it wasn't keeping it at 80% because of the smart battery charging? The machine will decide you don't need to go above 80% because your habits show that it will be plugged in for X amount of time, so it keeps it at 80% to keep the battery healthier.
