Hey all,

New to the forum and figured I'd ask here before I do any irreversible damage....I was curious to know if an iPhone 15 can be charged in a car which is wired positive earth. I have a 1967 MGB into which I installed a USB charger which has a plastic housing and is mounted under the dash via a plastic bracket so is totally isolated from the metal dash and any other chassis metal. When I connected the USB port, I ran the wire which connects to the negative terminal on the back of the charge port to a power source and the wire which connects to the positive terminal to an earth point behind the dash. The port powers up and shows battery voltage so all is good there, I just want to be sure the iPhone battery won't be damaged if I charge it in the car. Thanks all, appreciate it!

Should be fine, as long as the input voltage is within the specs of your USB adapter. It won't care or know if earth is positive or negative; just that the polarity is correct on its input.

Much appreciated, I’ll let it fly and see what happens. What I did hear however is that I’ll need to be careful not to let the metal part of the end of the USB cord touch anything metal in the car, else we’ll have a short. That said, I did make sure to use the fused wire on the side going to the negative terminal since that’s the hot feed in this scenario.
