Charging case only shows one combined charge?

I don't know if this has been an update but I often only use one airpod while at work. So in this instance I've has the right airpod in for half hour or so. I pop it back in the case and get this graphic..

A centralised percentage of 100 even though I know I've been using the right hand one. If I lift the left one from the case I get this...

My wife says she gets the same, is this a bug or issue?
