Charging cord for watch

This is a silly question but hey it's worth asking. Why is the charger for the watch so long and not for the iPhone? If the iPhone charger was that long. It would be perfect as ever.

You can get a 2m lightning cable from Apple or from several 3rd party vendors.

Yeah I know but the fact is why wouldn't that come pre packaged with the iPhone? lol wishful thinking. As I'm leaving halfway across my bed to text.

Because the iPhone cable was originally designed to be plugged into a computer.
The watch's cable only function is charging.
